Microblading
What is Microblading?
Microblading is an innovative new method of depositing pigments into the epidermis. It is done using a very fine blade that impacts colour closer to the surface. The strokes appear crisp and very fine. There is no spilling under the skin just beautiful realistic 3D hair strokes. This method is ideal for anyone looking to enhance and define the look of their brows.
How to prepare for your appointment?
• 24 hours prior to your appointment, DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL or CAFFEINE.
• 72 hours prior to your appointment, DO NOT TAKE ADVIL or other blood thinners such as Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Niacin or Vitamin E unless medically necessary.
• Botox should be done 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after the procedure.
• Avoid booking during your menstrual cycle as it can increase your pain.
• No waxing, tanning or tinting 3 days before.
• Arrive with no makeup for your appointment. A lot of wiping of pigment takes place and makeup can get ruined, so save yourself the hassle!
• Be prepared for your brows to look a little red and really dark! – don’t worry, they will fade in colour 30-50%.
You are NOT a suitable candidate for this procedure if you are:
• Pregnant
• History of Keloids or Hypertrophic scarring
• Diabetic (require doctor’s clearance)
• Chemotherapy (consult your doctor)
• Viral infections and/or diseases
• Epilepsy
• Pacemaker or major heart problems
• Organ transplant
• Skin irritations or Psoriasis near the treated area (rashes, sunburn, acne, etc.)
• Sick (cold, flu, etc.)
• Accutane in the past year
• Heart conditions, Uncontrolled High Blood Pressure, Poor general health.
• Any treatment, medication, or illness that compromises the immune system/healing would make you NOT a good candidate for micropigmentation procedures.
⦁ Holidays (consultation discuss)
How long does a microblading treatment take?
The consultation takes 1hr, during this time consultation forms will be completed by asking all relevant health, medical conditions and holidays booked. Pre/aftercare will be informed to the client and what to expect in the healing process of the brows. A patch test will be performed with all products that will be used in the treatment to ensure the client is not allergic. The client's ideal brows will be discussed as well as face shape, skin tone, eye colour and hair colour, the design will be drawn on so the client can agree on the shape, thickness and colour of brows. After 48hrs clients can book in for the treatment as long as they do not have a reaction to the patch test.
Microblading is a 2 step process, usually 6-8 weeks apart. It is important to complete both the initial procedure and touch up.
STEP 1: The initial procedure takes approximately 2 hours. During this time, a consultation is done where we discuss your desired brow look, choose a colour tone and draw the initial outline of the procedure area for your approval. Though our faces are NOT perfectly symmetrical (one side is usually flatter than the other), we do our very best to create as much symmetry as possible! As we like to say BROWS ARE SISTERS, NOT TWINS. Once you are satisfied with the basic shape and symmetry, the area is then traced over and the semi-permanent pigment is applied with a disposable microblading hand tool. This procedure uses a manual hand tool and not a machine.
STEP 2: The second stage of the treatment is a TOUCH-UP appointment. The touch up takes approximately 1.5 hours and is included in your service. Touch-ups are done no earlier than 6 weeks of your initial procedure and no later than 8 weeks. If you do not schedule your touch-up within 8 weeks, you will be required to pay a touch-up fee outlined in our touch-up schedule.
It is IMPERATIVE you complete the touch-up treatment. Without it, the results will not be optimal. Colour will fade significantly within 4 weeks as the skin heals, peels and fades. The touch up corrects any irregularities in the microbladed hair strokes, colour tones and finishes the process.
**Occasionally a third touch up (4-6 weeks later) is necessary for certain clients where the pigment does not take as well to the skin.**
How long can I expect it to last?
The pigment used in microblading is semi-permanent and can last between 1-3 years. The pigment will begin to fade within 12 months. In order to keep your brows looking fresh, a touch up is recommended every 12 months to 24 months maximum. After 2 years, full price for microblading will apply.
For clients that choose a softer look and lighter colour shade initially or those who did not follow the aftercare instructions properly may require more frequent touch-ups.
Factors that will cause your microbladed brow tattoo fade faster:
• Iron deficiency
• Sun exposure
• Exfoliants
• Strong immune systems
• Exposure to saltwater
• Smoking
Are Semi-Permanent Eyebrows deemed permanent?
Technically, semi-permanent micro-pigmentation is considered permanent because the colour is implanted into the upper dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off. However, the pigment is implanted more superficially than a traditional tattoo, so it naturally fades over time.
Does the application hurt?
We take every precaution necessary to ensure the microblading procedure is as pain-free as possible. A strong topical anaesthetic cream is used prior to and during the procedure to keep you as comfortable as possible. Some clients find the procedure a little uncomfortable while others report no discomfort at all.
How long is the recovery or healing time?
Immediately after your microblading procedure and in the first 10 days, your brows will appear significantly darker and defined than perhaps your desired look. It may continue to get darker over the next few days as scabs begin to form, however, this is not an accurate indication of the finished and healed result. 30-50% of your brow colour will fade as the scabs fall off within 7-10 days. In some cases, the scabs may take longer to heal and fall off. DO NOT PICK YOUR SCABS. The pigment is within the scab and you do not want to pull any pigment out of your skin prematurely. We all heal differently and what works on one client may not be effective on another so please do not compare your results.
The complete healing process takes approximately 6 weeks.
How do you choose a colour?
We choose a colour together by applying small amounts of different coloured pigments to the skin near to your brows and selecting the best match for your skin tone, features and personal preference. As a rule of thumb, we closely match the colour of your brow hair rather than your current hair colour for the most natural results.
What types of pigments do you use?
We use Tina Davis iron oxide pigments that will fade over time and are naturally absorbed by the skin. Iron oxides are innocuous, harmless and perfectly safe for your skin.
Can I have my brows microbladed if I’m pregnant?
No, you cannot have this treatment done if you are pregnant in case of infection.
Does it hurt afterwards?
The area can be a little sore for the first few hours and tender to touch for a couple of days.
Can you microblade over an existing brow tattoo?
Microblading can be done over an existing brow tattoo, however, the old tattoo must be significantly faded for the hair strokes to show through and look natural. Please advise if you have an existing tattoo and submit a picture to determine if you are a candidate for this procedure.
Will my microbladed brows look fake?
NO! Semi-Permanent makeup is done using a cosmetic tattooing process and our eyebrow pigmentation unique artistry guarantees soft, natural-looking eyebrows. When we implant semi-permanent makeup pigment in the skin, it appears more natural looking than topically applied cosmetics.
Are there any side effects during or after the procedure?
During the procedure, there may be some minor bleeding. This depends on the client. If you take blood thinners on a daily basis, then some slight bleeding may occur. Bruising is rare but can occur. There is usually some tenderness for a few days.
Aftercare
Day 1: Dab eyebrow with a dry clean tissue to clean any lymph fluid the brows may secrete.
Day 2-5: Wash brows morning and night time with mild non-scented soap and apply a tiny amount of aftercare balm for the first 5 days to avoid heavy scabbing.
Day 6-10: wash brows with unscented soap and apply SPF daily to avoid pigment fading.
Avoid retinol, acids and strong prescription products on the brows to avoid pigment fading.
Avoid facial treatment 2-4 weeks after Microblading session.
6-8 weeks after: attended your touch up appointment.
PLEASE NOTE: THE RESULTS ARE VERY NATURAL AND CREATE A FULLER LOOKING BROW. INITIALLY, THE BROWS APPEAR DARKER BUT FADE SIGNIFICANTLY OVER A TWO WEEK PERIOD. IT IS ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL TO HAVE A TOUCH UP DONE. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO PREDICT HOW WELL YOUR SKIN WILL RETAIN THE PIGMENT. DUE TO THIS AND MANY OTHER VARYING FACTORS, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE YOUR RESULTS.
